COVID cases rising locally

With Hyde Park and Woodhouse having some of the highest Covid infection rates in the country, we encourage everyone to get tested even if you do not have symptoms. Doing so enables the Track and Trace system to keep an eye on infection rates and helps contain the spread of the Delta variant.

If you test positive – remember to self-isolate and look after yourself. If you need any assistance, feel free to contact your local Liberal Democrat team and we will do what we can to help. As a community, we can work through this together and keep each other safe!

Brandon’s first blood donation

It was great to spend some time today speaking with the wonderful staff at the Leeds Blood Donation Centre! ??

Whilst there Brandon made his first NHS Blood Donation! Now that blood will be processed and be used to help save the lives of others.

The process was quick, Covid-safe, and the staff were all very friendly.

Today, Brandon used his work lunch break to make his donation, so if you have any spare time you can help save others too by donating blood. To find out more click here.

Men’s health week

We as Liberal Democrats are committed to pressing for changes in the way that Mental Health Services are funded and operated. Mental health is just as important as physical health and yet it remains severely under-resourced.

Suicide is not a choice, but every suicide is preventable.

Properly funding mental health support is a choice, so let’s make the right one to save as many lives as we can!

You can find more information about the Men’s Health Forum and Men’s Health Week here.

Blood donation rules change

From today the rules on blood donation have expanded to allow more people than ever to save lives by donating some of their blood.

We have all seen tragic scenes that have happened followed by a call for more people to donate blood. We have all heard about blood banks running low on blood that is vital to save lives. But for so long, many people have been unable to answer those calls.

Today that has changed – now that he is finally able to Brandon has jumped at the opportunity and registered to donate blood for the first time! Only 1 week to go until the appointment.

You too can help save lives by checking if you’re eligible to and registering to donate blood: https://www.blood.co.uk/who-can-give-blood/

Brandon on the Pint of Politics podcast

Last week Brandon had the privilege of joining host Connor Lawson on his podcast Pint of Politics. They chatted about key issues such as mental health, housing quality, and the importance of young people putting their voice into action and voting for real change in Headingley & Hyde Park.

The Liberal Democrats have what it takes to beat Labour in our ward and to make our community better for everyone. With the additional support of young voters and Young Liberals we can win here.

National Reflection Day

It is a rare occasion that we take a moment to stop and reflect over the last 12 months. Today on National Reflection Day, at 12 noon, we dedicated a minute of the day to stop and remember those we have tragically lost to Covid-19 and those who continue to fight this terrible disease.

Today Brandon spent his minute outside Leeds Civic Hall, where flags were lowered to half-mast.

This time was also an opportunity to reflect on the amazing work and dedication shown by the NHS staff and care workers across the country, who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to keep us safe and healthy. It was also a chance to reflect on the renewed bonds of community, where neighbours and volunteers have come out in vast numbers to support one another throughout the lockdown period.

Our thoughts are with all of those families that have lost someone over the last 12 months and our thanks are with all of those who have shown true courage in the face of adversity by giving their time, their love, and their efforts to help others through this time.

Leeds Liberal Democrats 2018 election manifesto

Today marks two weeks to the Leeds City Council elections for 2018. These are particularly important elections, because we are electing the whole of Leeds city council from scratch following changes to some ward boundaries. Across the city, everyone will have three votes each to select three new councillors for the ward they live in.

The Leeds Liberal Democrats have produced a fully-costed manifesto for this year’s elections, created through consultation with our local members, residents and city councillors. It is packed full of exciting and practical policies such as:

  • Citywide food waste and glass collection
  • Saving money and reducing pollution by powering city vehicles with biogas
  • A council-owned housing company building affordable homes for sale and rent
  • Addressing declining educational results amongst our most disadvantaged children
  • Employing dementia-supporting Admiral nurses

If you would like to read the manifesto in full, you can do that right here! Pictures of all the pages are included below, or you can download a pdf copy for yourself.
